Martin Carr, Business Advisor/Business Finance Facilitator

Martin has two roles at Toward Excellence. He facilitates the Business Finance modules and is one of the team of Business Advisors along with Lynn, Eileen and Julia. He brings his accountancy experience and expertise to TE along with twenty years experience in operating other business ventures. He can really relate to people making the transition to beginning a small business and navigating through startup!

He qualified as a Mechanical Engineer before taking Accountancy and became a Chartered Accountant in England. Once qualified, he worked for ITT in the Corporate Reporting Division and Banquets of Oxford as PA to the Chairman before embarking on an audit service contract with Deloittes in Namibia. Returning from Africa, he opened his own successful accountancy practice in Leicestershire, England . He then sold this and formed Mainstream Management Consultants in 1985. He went on to start another business, Winner Marketing, which produced promotional items from its base in the English Midlands.

A move to Scotland followed in 1990 when he and his wife bought and ran a Highland Hotel with some success. Selling this in 1993, he took short term contracts with a local Regional Development Company managing three divisions within that organization, and a training company at which he taught accountancy, IT and office administration.

His latest business venture is Shindigs! The company specializes in team building experiences through the means of fun and entertainment.the classic Murder Mystery! A published writer and stage actor and Director to Festival level, Martin came to BC in 1993 and is delighted to say that this is now "Home". He is the proud father of two daughters and grandfather to two grand daughters. He has eclectic interests and a love of the outdoors, the sea and wildlife and is delighted to brings all his passions to Toward Excellence and its new entrepreneurs.
